Walk behind scrapers are smaller machines you push. They work well in medium rooms, hallways and spaces with tight access.
Ride on scrapers are heavy machines an operator drives. The weight drives the blade under the floor and keeps it there. On big open floors they clear far more area per hour than hand tools.
What Floor Scraping Removes

- Glue down carpet and carpet tile
- Glue down wood and LVP
- Rubber flooring and some adhesives
It doesn't do everything. Thick mortar beds and stubborn thinset often need a grinder after. Edges, corners and tight spots still need hand tools.

Cleaner slabs. A sharp blade at the right angle takes more of the floor and adhesive with it.

Big open rooms, offices, retail spaces, warehouses and whole first floors in homes. Floor scraping shines anywhere there's a lot of square footage and a slab underneath.
For small bathrooms or tile on wood subfloors, hand demo is often the better choice.
A Word on Older Floors
